Meet the flight training instructors who can take you to the skies.

Martin Barnes Martin Barnes

Martin Barnes founded BFC back in 1987 and is now CEO and Chief Pilot of our charter business Centreline Air Charter (www.centrelineair.co.uk). His experience covers aircraft from the ubiquitous C152 to the Lear 60 having amassed more than 15,000 hours. He is an Instrument Rating Examiner (IRE), a Class Rating Examiner (CRE) and our TRTO Instructor.

Roy Hitchon Roy Hitchon

Roy Hitchon is BFC's Head of Training. He began flying at the age of 16, and from there qualified as a Ground Engineer and then Flight Engineer for BA, working on VC10's, Tristars and 747's. After 30 years with BA Roy retired and began instructing full time. He now has over 2,500 hours and is also a single/multi engine examiner. Aside from flying Roy likes to ski and play tennis, and has undertaken the long term restoration project of his home (currently into its 28th year, it has taken a bit longer than originally planned)!

Tony Gould Tony Gould

Before taking up instructing Tony's varied employment history has included managing a successful band, but he always had the urge to fly. His first instructional position was in the South of France, but he got bored of the nice weather and came back to spend 3 years managing three 707's for cargo runs. Tony came to work for BFC after being offered the Chief Flying Instructors position, as he liked the size and the atmosphere of the school. He's a keen motorcyclist and avid cricket fan.

Nasib Otaqui Nasib Otaqui

Our longest serving instructor having joined BFC in 1987, the year the company was established. Nasib is well known having successfully taught so many students who are now flying for major airlines around the world. A former chartered accountant he has over 7,500 hours and now instructs predominantly for the Instrument Rating.

Alan Reynolds Alan Reynolds

Alan was born and brought up in Belfast, but lived in Denmark for 10 years and speaks fluent Danish. He got back into flying while living in Denmark and started flying gliders. A qualified psychiatric nurse, Alan decided that a career change was the way forward and began instructing 3 years ago working for Cabair LSF. He joined BFC in May, and now has over 700 instruction hours logged.

Russell Frost Russell Frost

A trial lesson in a helicopter back in 1997 sparked Russ's interest in flying, leading to his career change from a Mechanical Engineer. But he didn't pursue the rotary option, instead preferring the challenge and reward of fixed wing instruction. A big sports fan, Russ enjoys both playing and watching football and also likes the relaxing pace of golf.

Leigh Collins Leigh Collins

Leigh started by flying model aircraft and then moved onto the real thing when he was 15 years old. Beginning on gliders, Leigh did his first solo at 16. He initially came to BFC to finish his IR and ended up taking up his first instructors position here as a PPL/IMC instructor. Leigh then went on to take his examiners ratings and is now a UK CRE and PPL FE on single/multi-engine piston land. He is also a base check Captain with Centreline Air Charter.

Stuart McManus Stuart McManus

A water treatment engineer by trade, Stuart has been flying since 1989 and instructing since 2000. A caving fan for 40 years, Stuart was forced to choose another hobby after developing knee problems. What started with a Private Pilots Licence soon got out of hand and now Stuart has over 2,000 hours to his name, flying extensively in Europe and North Africa as well as the UK.

Alyson Warron Alyson Warron

Alyson Warron was trained in the RAF before becoming an air traffic control officer at Bristol International Airport where she is now a watch manager. Alyson teaches radiotelephony and is a CAA approved R/T examiner.

Garic Howles Garic Howles

Garic joined us at the beginning of July, from sunny Florida having instructed for the past year with European Flight Training (EFT). Having previously worked in Hong Kong for Cathay Pacific as a language and service skills trainer, Garic passed his PPL in Australia and then came back to the UK and converted his licence with BFC. He initially went out to Florida in order to gain some experience and build hours, which he's achieved logging over 500 instructor hours and 1000+ TT.

Richard Young Richard Young

Richard was first introduced to flying through gliding and flew his first solo at 16 years of age. Whilst at Reading University he joined Oxford Uni's Air Squadron and flew with them for 2 years. Richard first started instructing at Lydd Aero Club, and progressed to CFI. He has also flown Seneca's for a photographic company. Another keen sportsman, Richard enjoys skiing, football and rugby.

Kevin Morgan Kevin Morgan

Kevin's experience of the aviation industry began when he started working for Britannia Airways as Cabin Crew. Based at both Luton and Bristol he stayed with the company for 20 years, funding his flight training and then moving onto instructing. Kevin comes to us from Aeros where he instructed whilst on a two year career break. Having been teaching for a few years now he has over 1400 instruction hours logged. When he's not flying Kevin is a keen Bristol City fan, follows Glamorgan County Cricket and is trying to get better at golf.
