Insight into the MCC
BFC student Jason Randell has just returned from Dublin, having
completed his Multi Crew Co-operation course with Parc. Jason
tells us a bit about what the course involved and how he got
on:
How long did the course last?
8 days; 2 days of lectures, 1 day of procedures and running
through things that would be done in the simulator sessions
and then 5 days in the simulator (737-200 full motion sims). |
 |
|
How did the theory fit into the overall course?
The theory side of the course seemed an ideal length. It was geared
to show how important it is to work as a team in the cockpit, and
it also included video footage of air accidents which occurred due
to lack of teamwork. The emphasis of the lectures was very much based
on understanding the need to work together as part of the crew.
Can you explain how the 5 days of practical sessions were
structured?
Each day included 4 hrs in the simulator, when you're paired up to
experience the hands-on Multi Crew flying both as pilot flying (PF)
and pilot non-flying (PNF). On the first day subjects covered included
cockpit setup, some general handling, ILS approach to land and VOR
approach. I spent 2 hrs as PF then after a coffee break it was another
2 hrs PNF. Day 2 covered rejected take-offs, departures, hold and
engine failures. Engine failures were then covered in-depth on the
third day as it is part of the assessment. After that it was a case
of starting to put it all together, practising everything that you've
learnt and on the last day there was an assessment to check that students
have understood it all.
Best bits?
Flying the simulator was great; we all thoroughly enjoyed that part
of the course. Also, the Guinness in Dublin is definitely worth sampling.
Worst bits?
Can't really think of any. |
