BFC hosts community Fathers Group
Bristol Flying Centre played host to potential future pilots when
they were visited by Hartcliffe and Redcliffe Fathers Group's and
their children, to learn about flight planning and flying an aircraft
for the first time.
"Fathers Groups are still a relatively new idea, having only
been around for the last 5 or 6 years" said Mark Newman, coordinator
for the day. "They were set up to encourage fathers to spend
more time with their children, with particular emphasis on family
care"
The inspiration for the visit came from Tahir Darr, a member of the
Fathers Group and also a British Airways pilot. The children were
treated to a flight in one of the simulators at the centre demonstrated
by Tahir and Russell Frost, a flight instructor with Bristol Flying
Centre.
With the aviation industry picking up and the increase in demand for
pilots Tahir is hoping that the visit may have sparked an interest
in a few of the younger group members.
